From Mal Pais to Santa Teresa and further on to Playa Hermosa there are about 15 main beach breaks and hundreds of different peaks , all in an 8 mile area.  There are some better known point breaks but none compare to Suck Rock when the swell is really firing.

Suck Rock sits on the point just south of Pinon in northern Santa Teresa.  When it’s really big there is an outer reef which breaks about 500 meters out from “Sucky”.  When everything is firing you can ride a wave from Outer Reef through Mimms Teats catching a spitting barrel through “Sucky” eventually hustling through the trough to pick up two more small but fast and juicy sections, another 150 meters, to 7 trees.  Probably more than 700 meters total and a really good ride. 

Since Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are so well known for the surf and for great surfers, it’s easy to see how the reputation  for being the place to come for surf schools would be a natural.
